MICHAEL ROBERTS, whose 10-day suspension means he stands to miss the whole of Glorious Goodwood, yesterday lodged an appeal with the Jockey Club for the ban to be lifted.

The appeal will be heard by the Club's disciplinary committee on Thursday. It was at Newbury last Saturday that Roberts collected his fourth suspension of the season.

The track's stewards said the champion jockey caused intentional interference on Sabrehill. The partnership edged past subsequent runner-up Bobzao on their way to a four-length victory. Sabrehill was disqualified and placed last and Roberts banned from 26 July to 4 August.

Goodwood runs from 27 July to 31 July inclusive. Unless Roberts's ban is lifted, or cut substantially, he will miss numerous rides on top-class horses.
