Racing: Planning Committee rejects criticism

The British Horseracing Board's Race Planning Committee yesterday rejected criticism of plans for summer jump racing next year, despite the low turnouts and hard ground that have plagued the week-old season. A statement insisted it was 'entirely misleading' to assess the experiment's chances 'by reference to results in August 1994,' arguing, 'there is no reason to doubt that the ground will be much better than is commonly found during dry periods in May or August on other racecourses with less extensive capacity to water.'
