"I wish to place on record my astonishment upon being arrested on 28 January.

I have previously fully co-operated with Jockey Club enquiries since the time I brought these matters to their attention.

Having had time to reflect on the events of yesterday, I am extremely concerned at the conduct and outcome of proceedings before the Licensing Committee. I do not believe I was given a fair hearing. I am deeply disappointed at inflammatory press releases emanating from Portman Square.

Neither I, nor my solicitors, have been presented with any evidence against me in relation to the allegations arising out of the Jockey Club and police investigations. I was interviewed for 12 minutes during my detention at Charing Cross Police Station.

I categorically deny any wrong doing. I am confident in due course I will be totally exonerated. I hope commonsense will prevail and following the Licensing Committee hearing next week, I will be able to resume my career. I would ask that in the meantime my privacy be respected. I have nothing further to add."
