CARVILL'S HILL was yesterday pulled out of the Welsh National on 28 December and will not now been be seen on a racecourse until the New Year. 'The horse will not be ready in time for Chepstow,' a statement from Martin Pipe's stable said.
The gelding, who will be 12 on 1 January, has been sidelined since sustaining an injury in the 1992 Gold Cup. Carvill's Hill has also missed possible engagements in the Hennessy Gold Cup and last Saturday's Rehearsal Chase.
But the Pipe stable insisted yesterday that there was nothing amiss with the horse, a brilliant winner of the Welsh National two years ago.
