Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

2.05: Options Open has developed into a smart juvenile, following his third in Newbury's Super Sprint Trophy with a wide-margin Windsor success. The placed horses there have both won since, but Richard Hannon's speedy charge may not be suited by an extra furlong today. Pentire graduated from maiden to Group class when placed in the Richmond Stakes, but had previously met the same rivals as ISTIDAAD came across on his Ascot debut behind Juyush, in Otterbourne and last week's Salisbury scorer Twilight Sleep. That form gives Alec Stewart's highly regarded youngster every chance of coming out on top and decisive improvement may be expected.
2.35: The weight range of only a stone means four runners are out of the handicap and although Brandon Court and Cuango, in particular, do not look out of it they are at a disadvantage. TRANSOM, who has had only five races, has the physique to develop further and was a creditable third on his first attempt at this trip at Goodwood. He is a top-priced 5-1, with Coral, in morning betting, but for those looking for a more adventurous bet then Cuango, at 33-1 with Coral and William Hill, is the one. Although not losing his maiden tag until his eighth race, he has a fine chance on May form when he divided Brandon Court and Slasher Jack at Chester, giving weight to both.
3.10: The two three-year-olds may provide the forecast with GRAND LODGE taken to overcome King's Theatre. The selection races as if he will appreciate stepping up from a mile, a distance at which his form at Royal Ascot and Goodwood is rock solid. Certainly, it is impossible to take the 15-8 widely on offer about the favourite when William Hill and Ladbrokes are quoting the Willie Jarvis-trained colt at 7-1. With eight runners each-way betting looks attractive and, if the younger brigade falter, Bob's Return (14-1, William Hill) might be overpriced.
3.45: All these are entered in the St Leger except Luhuk, whose best form has been at 10 furlongs, and BROADWAY FLYER can win what should be the definitive trial for the final Classic. His Gordon Stakes victory showed that he is ideally suited by being able to dominate small fields, as he held off the challenge of Suplizi. That running gives him the measure of Sacrament, to whom Suplizi had been second when conceding weight, and John Hills's charge can progress further as he puts the sickness which blighted his Derby chance behind him. The unbeaten Double Trigger makes his seasonal debut, but his trainer has stated that the horse will probably be some way from his racing weight, while the form of his Zetland Stakes win last autumn has not grown in stature in his absence.
4.15: With a big field and the stalls on the stands' rail a low draw may help and SIR JOEY, who is in the five berth, has the right credentials. Impressive over this track last month, he is only 4lb higher in the weights now. Just 14-1 with Ladbrokes, he is 25-1 with Coral.
