2.10: A low draw proved vital in the sprint here yesterday and the in-form RANAAN has sufficient early speed to exploit his spot close to the rails. It is to his advantage that Bollin Rita, in pole position, is usually held up while Lively Jacq, in the next stall, could be a trifle ring-rusty after a six-month lay-off.

2.40: SHEER SABO was given an easy time once it was clear he could not overcome a slow start behind Alfailak at Newmarket. His experience and class might be sufficient to overcome the handicap of a wide draw, although In The Nick looked sharp at Beverley and will take some catching.

3.10: RAINBOW HIGH could hardly have beaten Candle Smile more easily on fast ground at Newbury last month, on his first try over a staying trip, and he looks a horse to follow. The rivals that might pose the most problems are top-weight Invermark, who displayed a good turn of foot to take the Group 1 Prix du Cadran in October, and Paul Cole's four-year- old Generosity, a progressive horse last year, bred to stay well and having his first run beyond 15 furlongs. Eight of the remainder are out of the handicap proper.

3.45: There is not much public form to go on, but RUACANA FALLS looks sure to appreciate this distance and was thought good enough to take her chance in Group company last season. That venture was not a great success, but it came in the Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket over seven furlongs, a step down in trip that was all against her. None of the others can be ruled out, although Valentine Girl looked to have problems on her last two starts as a juvenile. It looks as if Michael Hills has passed over that filly in favour of the least exposed contender in the field, Starboard Tack. The John Hills-trained Nicely has been targeted at this race.
