NEWBURY

1.30: MISSEL was narrowly beaten when third in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot and would have won had not greenness delayed his challenge. This colt can improve trainer Peter Chapple- Hyam's excellent record on his local track.

2.00: CASTORET faded in the closing stages when running over two miles last time. Today, however, this eight-year- old pursues a third course win over this distance, and is 7lb lower than his most recent Newbury victory.

2.30: Brief Glimpse and Femme Savante have solid credentials but Turtle Island, the Irish 2,000 Guineas winner, was third in this race a year ago. MALAFEMMENA has shaped like a very useful filly in two runs in Italy, and could be better class than this field.

NEWMARKET

3.15: A below-par field, more suited to a handicap than a Listed race, may be vulnerable to WANDESTA if she has the ability to justify her Yorkshire Oaks entry. She showed promise on her only run, behind Golden Nashwan, and runs here instead of the same connections' half- sister to Quest For Fame, Yenda.

3.45: In the absence of Henry Cecil's highly-regarded Charnwood Forest, none of the newcomers stands out on paper in a race which often goes to a useful prospect. LION'S MANE ran promisingly enough when fourth to Femme Savante on his debut to suggest he can prove close to the usual standard.

4.15: PAONIC split the very useful Diesan and Friendly Champ when runner-up in the juvenile maiden on this card a year ago, but had not performed to a similar level until a spectacular victory in a handicap at the July meeting last time out. A stiff rise in the weights may not be sufficient to halt his progress.

4.45: ALLTHRUTHENIGHT followed an Epsom success by finishing down the field in the Wokingham Handicap at Royal Ascot, but can recapture winning form on his return to the minimum distance.
