Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

2.10: The Alex Ferguson-owned Queensland Star goes for a hat-trick and it will be interesting to see how this very speedy dual-5f winner performs in his first attempt at 6f. In contrast, KALIDASA is certain to be suited by this distance after staying-on well over 5f at Chester four weeks ago. Peter Chapple-Hyam saddled last year's winner of this contest. Richard Hannon's stable is sending out plenty of winners just now and Red Delirium has the most advantageous draw.

2.45: Another fascinating renewal of this event is in prospect again with France and Ireland strongly represented by For Valour and Ebadiyla respectively. But the big two here are Frankie Dettori's mount SWAIN and Pat Eddery's Silver Patriarch. Overlooking the claims of the grey - narrowly defeated in last year's Derby - seems dangerous, but narrow preference is given to the former.

3.20: Luck will play a major role as this big field helter-skelters around Tattenham Corner, but Kieren Fallon is likely to gain a prominent position on APACHE RED, reasonably well-drawn near the inside rails. Fallon's mount ran on stoutly when taking fourth place in a competitive 6f race at Lingfield last time, beating all his his rivals in the unfavoured far- side group. This colt won over a mile as a juvenile so this 7f is not a problem. Jack Berry has a good record in Epsom handicaps and his Only For Gold looks a threat from his low draw.

4.00: Shahtoush was runner-up to Cape Verdi in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket. Her trainer excuses her subsequent disappointing 10th in the Irish equivalent on the grounds that she was still recovering from a kick delivered by an unruly Tarascon at Newmarket. Tarascon, last of 16 at Newmarket, then tore up the form book to win the Irish 1,000. At her long odds, Aidan O'Brien's filly is each-way value. Cloud Castle finished eighth at the Curragh, though made up a lot of late ground and has strong claims over this extra half-mile. It was in a muddling race that BAHR defeated Midnight Line at York last time, but the form seems unlikely to be reversed.
