Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

ASCOT

2.00: Richard Quinn won on his final two rides yesterday so is the right man to follow. He rides PENMAYNE, who will be sharper for her Epsom spin behind Fairy Queen, winner of the Ribblesdale on Thursday. Penmayne ran that filly very close as a juvenile and she's great value at 25-1 with Hills.

2.30: Unlike last Saturday's trailblazer First Musical, ELEGANT LADY is at the right end of the handicap. She's a daughter of Selkirk, who revelled on fast ground, and she ran well with a big weight at Windsor after her Chester win.

3.00: Frankie Dettori is the man to have on your side in a tactical battle on this course. He partners ZARFOOT, who can improve enough for the step up in trip to surprise likely favourite Flaming Quest.

3.35: Another Time is coming to hand at the right time and is virtually assured of starting favourite after winning this race last year. But he still has to improve to reverse recent form with Lady Rockstar, who never runs a bad race and successful with a big weight at Newbury. Brilliant Red and Pat Eddery look a hardy combination after the second to Lonesome Dude at Sandown, but it could be worth chancing LET IT RAIN, who won a couple in New Zealand before joining Mark Johnston. This could be his day after running over a longer trip at Epsom.

AYR

3.15: Persian Fayre has beensuperbly handled by Jack Berry to win his last three races and

has won at this track. The handicapper may have caught up with him however and the spoils may go to JEFFREY ANOTHERRED, who won a competitive handicap here last season when rated 2lb higher and looked to be coming back to form last time.

3.45: FNAN, who travels a huge distance from John Dunlop's Sussex yard, looked good enough in two recent victories over his own age group to account for his elders today.

4.15: MISS FIT has not always looked the easiest of rides but showed plenty of enthusiasm when dead-heating for third place in a better event at York last week. Oriel Star is talented when in the mood and could be the danger.

4.45: SIMPLE IDEALS, who has shown improved form after moving stables this term, has looked capable of winning a small race. Unlucky in running at Redcar last time, he can lose his maiden tag today.

REDCAR

4.00: BACHELORS PAD must have a leading chance off bottom weight in a weakish race. He's likely to run from the front and reverts to his proper class after taking on Scene at Epsom.

4.30: In a likely 6-1 the field sprint, YOUNG BIGWIG can deliver after running one of his better races at York last Saturday.
