TENNIS: SPORTING DIGEST
The former world No 1, Tracy Austin, and Wendy Turnbull, who won 12 Grand Slam doubles titles, are among the early entries for a Tennis Legends competition at the Women's World Doubles Cup in Edinburgh from 24-27 May.
Gary Henderson, the world No 241, is the only newcomer to the Laing LTA team for 1995. John Laing are providing £35,000 towards travel and coaching costs in their 11th year of sponsorship.
Boris Becker withdrew from the men's indoor tournament yesterday without hitting a ball because of knee injuries. The world No 3, who was expected to start his first round today against Karol Kucera, travelled to Rotterdam where the tournament doctor confirmed he was unfit to play. The tournament director, Wim Buitendijk, said Becker was suffering from knee strain in both legs, adding that he understood Becker would take a couple of weeks off from the circuit.
