Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Though the nights may be drawing in, the skiing season will soon be upon us and to mark the start of that season two exhibitions next month have plenty to offer skiers experienced and new.

Indeed, the Daily Mail British Ski Show at Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre from 15 to 18 October and the Daily Mail International Ski Show at Earls Court, London, from 31 October to 8 November are making a special effort to encourage new skiers.

A large proportion of the regular visitors to these shows will have already learnt to ski, but a beginners' slope is being built at both shows for new skiers to try. Free taster lessons from qualified instructors with skis and boots supplied should prove popular.

A new addition this year is the mogul slope, providing another attraction in the event arena where the public can enjoy aerial and stunt skiing displays. In the participation area, cross-country skiing and curling are among features visitors can try.

Complementing the trade stands, with the latest equipment and clothing, representatives at the Ski Club of Great Britain stand can advise on all aspects of skiing. There is also a creche, free of charge for two hours, this year.
