Perrett's final goal
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

RUPERT METCALF
If Mangotsfield United overcome Clitheroe in the semi-finals of the FA Carlsberg Vase, they will become the third side from the Great Mills Western League to reach the final in the last four years. However, their two predecessors, Tiverton and Taunton, both lost - and if Mangotsfield make it to Wembley their manager, Terry Rowles, and top striker, Andy Perrett, will be keener than most to secure the silverware.
Rowles was in charge of the Taunton side which lost the Vase final to Diss two years ago, when he had Perrett plus two current Mangotsfield defenders, Wayne Morris and Dave Ewens, in his Wembley line-up. In that 1993-94 season Perrett scored an astonishing 62 goals in all competitions for Taunton, but was not fully fit for the final and lasted less than an hour of the match, which was settled in extra time. The experienced striker will be hoping for better luck this year, if he can help his team- mates vanquish their opponents from the North West Counties League.
Mangotsfield have home advantage tomorrow against Clitheroe, at their Cossham Street ground on the eastern outskirts of Bristol, in the first leg of the semi-final. In the other last-four tie, Brigg Town, of the Northern Counties East League, entertain another North West Counties League outfit, Flixton.
