Great Britain will hope to consolidate their second place on the Olympic medal table after a ‘Sensational Sunday’ at Rio 2016, where they secured five gold medals and three silvers to record their greatest ever medal haul at an overseas Games.

There's plenty more up for grabs too, with sailor Giles Scott already guaranteed gold in the men's Finn class, although he will have to wait until Tuesday's final race to receive his medal, while British boxer Joshua Buatsi confirmed to win at least bronze after reaching the men's heavyweight semi-finals.

There will be a desperation for cyclist Mark Cavendish to end his Olympic medal hoodoo, with the Isle of Man rider beginning his quest to win the omnium today in an effort to join the rest of his Team GB teammates in securing medals in the

velodrome.

The action gets underway around 13:30 BST with the women's 10km swim marathon, with Great Britain's Kerri-Anne Payne competing in the open-water event.

Dina Ahser-Smith begins her 200m campaign in the women’s heats at 13:38, while British riders Charlotte Dujardin and Carl Hester will hope for success in the individual dressage. Britain also compete in the women’s hockey quarter-finals as they take on Spain.
