Your support makes all the difference.Britain’s golden couple Laura Trott and Jason Kenny duly delivered to take the number of gold medals won by Team GB cyclists to six, and 11 in total. Of those Kenny contributed three golds and his fiancé two.
While Trott breezed to victory in the omnium Kenny was made to sweat in the keirin following two false starts, the first of which threatened his elimination after starting the sprint before the derny had left the track.
Common sense prevailed on both occasions leaving Kenny to etch his mark on history by drawing level with Sir Chris Hoy as the owner of most gold medals.
Trott was in tears when Kenny crossed the line and their subsequent embrace, sealing a brilliant games with a kiss, made a picture for the ages.
Trott declared her love for her man in a tweet. “Arghhhh!!!!!! I love him to bits. Our kids have to get some of these genes right?”
On her own performance she had this to say: “I still feel like that little girl just riding around on a bike, but now I have all these gold medals. I am so proud at what I achieved. I cannot thank the people in the background enough.
“I always thought how special London was. I went there without any expectations, so to win two golds was just incredible, and then I thought, how on earth am I going to top that? We believed in ourselves, and in our team. It just started to snowball.”
