It was the moment that would delight the nation. Andy Murray embracing his mother, Judy, the two leading protagonists in the drama of British tennis finally getting to release the pent-up emotions created by all those close calls at Wimbledon. And the BBC missed it.

After a leap into the players' box, Murray worked his way through coaches and family. Just as he was about to embrace his mother, the BBC cut to a shot of Roger Federer.

It wasn't the only instance. On Saturday, commentators had to tell viewers they had missed "the biggest cheer of the night" as Jessica Ennis was announced for her 800m heats appearance – the event that secured her heptathlon gold. The BBC was playing a scene-setting Ennis montage.
