ZHANG SHAN continued China's flow of gold medals in the early days of the Games by winning the skeet yesterday, but the 24-year-old will not be permitted to defend her title in Atlanta.
Zhang, who finished with a total of 223 out of a possible 225, did not miss one clay out of 200 in the preliminary rounds (an Olympic record), but she will have to aim at a new women-only event in 1996 as the International Olympic Committee will not sanction mixed shooting again.
Wang Yifu gave China, who won their first medal in 1984, their fifth gold of the Games when he won the air pistol with the last shot of the tournament.
