Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. His name may sound like a phrase used from the great US political scandal of the 1990s, but Green Bay Packers could have the last laugh with their pick in the NFL Draft, the bizarrely named Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. And yes, that is (kind of) his real name.
The Packers used the 21st overall pick on Alabama safety Clinton-Dix, who grabbed the headlines in America last night, not just for his name, but for his Lionel Messi-meets-Ron Burgundy velvet red blazer.
Clinton-Dix, who has been touted as the man to solve the Packers safety woes, told afterwards how his funny name came about. He was given the name of Ha'Sean at birth, but has been known as Ha Ha from the age of three.
"Actually, my grandmother gave me that name when I was three or four years old," he said.
"She got tired of pronouncing my full name, which is Ha-Seen, but it’s spelled Ha-Sean. So about age 3 or 4, she started calling me Ha Ha, and it just went from there."
Monica Lewinsky resurfaced for the first time in 10 years this week, writing about her affair with former President Bill Clinton in Vanity Fair, coincidence?
