Sri Lanka made a better start in their second innings but still ended the third day of the first Test at Carisbrook, in Dunedin, some 327 runs behind New Zealand after being forced to follow on.
Sri Lanka were 37 without loss in their second innings yesterday when rain stopped play and the umpires abandoned play with 29 scheduled overs remaining.
