‘It was clear it would happen’: Jurgen Klopp defends Liverpool fans booing National Anthem

Liverpool FC manager, Jurgen Klopp, has defended fans after they booed over the National Anthem before yesterday’s game against Brentford (6 May).

The song was played to mark the coronation of King Charles III, but the city has a long and turbulent history with the royal family.

“It was clear something like this would happen, everybody knew it. That is fine, nothing else happened, there were no chants”, Klopp maintained in a press conference.

“Thank God we have the freedom of free speech and freedom of opinion.”
