The fact that the Italian driver Jarno Trulli took it upon himself to announce his imminent departure from Renault speaks volumes for his relationship with the team for whom he won the Monaco Grand Prix.

Ever since that triumph there have been tensions with team principal, Flavio Briatore. But the breaking point was his refusal to agree to a five-year extension with Briatore's British Virgin Islands management company.

Juan Pablo Montoya is headed for McLaren-Mercedes and Ralf Schumacher to Toyota, and though Toyota do not want to reveal it yet, Trulli will join him.

Giancarlo Fisichella will move from Sauber to Renault, and Mark Webber will go to Williams-BMW. David Coulthard, Olivier Panis, F3000 star Vitantonio Liuzzi, Anthony Davidson and Gary Paffett must fight over rides with Williams-BMW, Sauber and Jaguar.
