Motor racing: Menu maintains his pace
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Alain Menu, the man at the top of the Auto Trader RAC Touring Car Championship standings, was ahead of the field again following official testing at the North Yorkshire circuit of Croft yesterday.
The 13th and 14th rounds of the series could be the most closely contested so far this season as less than a second separates the top 12 drivers although Menu, in his Renault Laguna, was the only man to record a time less than 1min 21sec.
The Swiss driver is just over a tenth of a second quicker than the Honda of the Italian former Formula One driver, Gabriele Tarquini.
Menu's team-mate, Jason Plato, who was quickest in testing at Croft last week, was back in eighth position. Plato damaged his car in a gravel trap roll-over accident and although unhurt, will race in the spare car for this weekend's races, with official qualifying taking place today.
