Nigel Mansell was edged out of pole position by Paul Tracy in the second official qualifying session for the Toyota Grand Prix, writes Toni Toomey from Long Beach, California. Midway through the session Tracy delivered a blistering 52.859-second lap, breaking the existing track record. Mansell waas edged off the front row by Emerson Fittipladi and Al Unser Jnr as Penskes dominated the front row. Mansell, who spun off during unofficial practice in the morning, is in fifth place, 16 points off the pace, in the contest for the 1994 PPG Cup.
