Mike Trout is set to become the highest-paid player in the history of sport with the ink about to dry on a 12-year, $430million extension with the Los Angeles Angels.

The contract sees the 27-year-old surpass the previous high mark set earlier this month when Bryce Harper agreed to join the Philadelphia Phillies on a 12-year, $330m deal.

Trout, widely considered to be the best player in the game, sets a new record for career earnings at about $513 million, surpassing the roughly $448 million Alex Rodriguez took in with Seattle, Texas and the New York Yankees from 1994-2017.
