"If you can get 10-1 with a run for the Champion Hurdle - take it," was how Oliver Sherwood summed up Large Action's debut over fences at Uttoxeter yesterday. Last year's Champion Hurdle runner-up was far from foot-perfect, but his jockey, Jamie Osborne, sat tight and the pair outspeeded Spinning Steel to win by four lengths.

"It's a long way to next March and I'm not going to say now if he'll run in the Champion or the Arkle," Sherwood said. "To be fair to the horse he was never out of third gear and I'd like to think he could have another run over fences." Sherwood refused to be drawn on where Large Action would next appear.
