England scored their first win in the world lacrosse championship in Bury yesterday when they beat the game's inventors, the Iruquois Nationals, 19-6. The home team got off to a slow start and only led 2-0 at the end of the first quarter, but stretched their lead in an eight-goal last quarter. Canada gave newcomers Japan their second thrashing of the week. The Canadians were too experienced for the Japanese, winning 33-7, with Oliver Marti scoring six goals; Japan's Shusuke Asahara scored three.
