From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

2015 has been a memorable year for sport in many different ways.

On the field we saw some incredible matches, and many legends got a proper send off.

Off the field, England hosted what is being hailed as the most successful Rugby World Cup ever. There were also moments we would like to forget, with doping scandals in athletics and corruption at the highest levels of Fifa.

However, rather than as a year of great highs and lows, 2015 may well go down in history as the year of the sports personality, as some outspoken sportspeople showed that they have a way with words as well as with the ball.

Others demonstrated a sense of humour, while a few provided warnings of being to open with your views.

Some of the following quotes even entertained more than the sporting events they accompanied, while others placed a light atmosphere on some dark moments.
