Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Janzen leads the line

America's Lee Janzen shot a spectacular seven-under-par 65 to take the lead after the second round of the Mercedes Championship in Carlsbad, California. Janzen lies one stroke ahead of fellow American Mark O'Meara, while first-round leader Corey Pavin joined Jim Gallagher and Scott Hoch two strokes back. Pavin completed 72 consecutive holes without dropping a shot before his amazing run came to an end with a double bogey at the par-four 10th. It was his first blemish since he bogeyed the ninth during the second round in the Million Dollar Challenge in South Africa, which he won last month. The Open champion, John Daly, continued his poor run of form with a 75 for seven-over 151 that left him last by two strokes in the 30-man field. Daly finished last by 23 strokes in his last tournament, the Johnnie Walker World Championship in Jamaica three weeks ago.
