From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Tottenham at last completed the signing of the pounds 2.6m Norwegian striker Steffen Iversen from Rosenborg Trondheim yesterday - and doubled their celebrations by announcing that their goalkeeper Ian Walker had agreed a new five-year contract.

Iversen, who has been tracked by Spurs for more than eight months, helped Rosenborg pull off an outstanding 2-1 victory at Milan in the Champions' League on Wednesday, but his signing had already been made and his appearance yesterday at the Tottenham training ground was for a routine medical.

Iversen, who has registered in time to play at Coventry tomorrow, said: "Tottenham were the only club that made an acceptable offer for me and I am hopeful I have made the right choice coming here."

The powerful 6ft 2in striker, who has scored 13 goals in 17 Under-21 appearances for Norway, said: "What helped me decide to come to England and especially Tottenham is that my friend Espen Bardsen is already with the club as their reserve goalkeeper."

Iversen's Rosenborg team-mate, Bjorn Tore Kvarme, is to sign for Liverpool today. The 24-year-old defender, who is out of contract, has agreed a three-year deal.
