Italian Football: Platt's header lifts Juventus
DAVID PLATT scored one of the goals as Juventus gained a thrilling 4-3 win over Napoli yesterday which lifted Juventus into joint fourth place and may have finally ended Napoli's hopes of a Uefa Cup place for next season.
Platt's goal, a header from a corner, came in the 16th minute and was Juventus's second, but Napoli fought back before capitulating to a winner, eight minutes from time, by the German Andreas Moller.
Milan took their unbeaten run in Serie A to 57 games with a 2-0 victory over Fiorentina, both goals coming from Dejan Savicevic. They are now 11 points clear of Internazionale, who drew 1-1 at Atalanta.
Second-placed Inter were lucky to come away with a point against Atalanta, whose home record is even better than that of Milan. Their goal came in the 70th minute from Antonio Manicone.
Lazio, without suspended Paul Gascoigne, found some consolation when Roberto Cravero headed in from a corner near the end, but by then Parma's Alessandro Melli had already scored twice and missed a penalty.
Torino move up a place to third after their winger Paolo Poggi scored the only goal of the match, replacing Lazio who slipped back to fourth after losing 2-1 at Parma.
Fiorentina, who started the season like champions, now have one of the worst records in the First Division, without a single win in eight league games under their new manager, Aldo Agroppi.
