From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

MANCHESTER STORM are believed to have agreed a swap deal with London Knights enabling Rick Brebant to leave the MEN Arena and Ryan Duthie to move north.

Brebant, who scored the only penalty shot in Storm's Benson and Hedges Cup success over Knights earlier this month, has apparently been regarded as a disruptive influence in coach Kurt Kleinendorst's side over the past two weeks after admitting he wanted to leave the club. The 35-year-old was immediately linked with a move to Sheffield Steelers, but Kleinendorst vetoed the deal unless he could have either Ed Courtenay or Shayne McCosh in exchange.

If the Brebant-Duthie swap goes through both should make their debuts after Christmas - Storm visit Cardiff Devils on Boxing Day and London are at home to Bracknell Bees the following day. Another Storm debutant could be the Finnish defenceman Artuu Kayhko, who ended last season in the IHL with Orlando Solar Bears. He replaces Kevin Pozzo, who has been released due to a breach of club regulations.
