Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Smith's side are seven points clear of their Glasgow rivals in the title race with just five games left as they try to win their ninth title in a row.
Rangers have lost their last two home games, to Dundee United and Kilmarnock, and have a number of injury problems. Midfielders Ian Ferguson and Charlie Miller are both suspended but Hateley, back for a second spell at the club following a move from Queen's Park Rangers, can return after his dismissal at Celtic Park.
Hateley is sure to be given a huge welcome by the Ibrox fans after scoring more than 100 goals in his first spell. Erik Bo Andersen could also come into contention, but the match is too early for Paul Gascoigne to return.
While Rangers stay in Glasgow, Tommy Johnson is expected to make his Celtic debut against Raith at Stark's Park. Johnson will wear the hoops for the first time at Kirkcaldy after his pounds 2.4m transfer from Aston Villa.
The 26-year-old Geordie cannot wait for his first taste of Scottish football and could be joined in the Celtic line-up by the Italian Paolo Di Canio who is available again after a ban.
However, Peter Grant and Malky Mackay are both serving suspensions which will mean that they will miss the Tennents Scottish Cup semi-final with Falkirk.
Kilmarnock aim to maintain their impressive recent form against Hearts at Rugby Park after victories over Celtic and Rangers in recent weeks.
Hearts will be without John Robertson. The 32-year-old striker, who is one goal short of equalling Jimmy Wardhaugh's club Scottish League goal-scoring record, is out after having knee surgery.
