Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Tiger Woods shot the lowest score of his career to blow away the field and win the Tour Championship by eight strokes here yesterday. He led throughout the final round, carding a four-under-par 66 at East Lake in the final event of the new FedEx Cup play-off series.

Woods finished with a 23-under-par 257, two strokes better than his previous best total of 21-under.

Woods also smashed the Tour Championship record low score, by six strokes, the same time as securing the fourth victory in his past five starts, and clinching the FedEx Cup title.

"It's been just a phenomenal week. I just hit shot after shot and when I got on the greens my speed was good all week," Woods said. He not only collected $10m for winning the FedEx Cup, but also $1.26m for winning the tournament yesterday.

In Germany, Soren Hansen gained his second European Tour title after two eagles in the Mercedes-Benz Championship at Gut Larchenhof. Hansen chip-ped in from 40ft on the 13th and then holed from 12ft on the 15th. The Dane finished four shots clear of England's Phillip Archer and Scotland's Alastair Forsyth (70).
