Lorena Ochoa, playing in her first event as a professional in Europe, shot a six-under 66 to share the lead with Juli Inkster after the first round of the Evian Masters.
The Mexican player became only the 10th woman to card 29 over nine holes on the European Tour. "I made a lot of putts today," she said.
The American Rosie Jones finished third, a shot back at 67, while Scotland's Janice Moodie and South Korea's Jeong Jang shared fourth place on 68. England's Samantha Head was a further shot back on 69.
South Korea's Se Ri Pak, Australia's Karrie Webb and Britain's Laura Davies were in a group of nine tied on 70 while Annika Sorenstam, playing after two weeks off, had a 72 with three birdies, one bogey and a double bogey.
