NEW ZEALAND'S Greg Turner won the Australian PGA Championship after a matchplay battle with Craig Parry evaporated at the second-last hole at the Victoria Golf Club, Melbourne.
Turner finished on 10 under par - 278 - after rounds of 68, 68, 70 and 72, two ahead of the Queenslander Shane Tait, while Parry tied for third at seven-under 281 with Robert Allenby and Nick O'Hern.
Turner, broke away to a four-shot lead at the 10th before Parry birdied the 13th and 14th to grab the lead. But a double-bogey seven at the 17th finally sunk the Australian.
In the Vodacom Players Championships at Royal Cape Golf Club in Cape Town yesterday, Darren Clarke had to be content with second place after the South African, Nic Henning, held off his challenge.
Henning ended tied with Clarke on 12 under par, but won on the second play-off hole.
