Your support makes all the difference.RAYMOND FLOYD achieved a unique double at Indianapolis on Sunday - and then celebrated by giving away the prize. The 50-year-old Floyd won the GTE North Classic Senior tournament to become the first player to win PGA and Senior Tour events in the same year, and promptly said that he was donating his dollars 67,500 (pounds 39,360) winner's cheque to the PGA Tour's hurricane relief fund.
Floyd, who won the Doral Ryder Open in March on the regular tour, fired a six-under 66 at the Broadmoor Country Club to win the North Classic by two strokes over Mike Hill. Floyd finished with a
17-under-par total of 199.
Besides his Doral victory, Floyd also finished second this year at both the Masters and the Byron Nelson Classic, and is among the top 10 of 1992 PGA money-winners and Ryder Cup points leaders.
Floyd, who lives in North Miami Beach, Florida, said he had discussed the donation with his wife, Maria, after Hurricane Andrew devastated parts of Florida and Louisiana. He went on to make it clear that he is not ready to consign himself solely to the senior circuit.
'I haven't switched tours,' Floyd said. 'I've just come over for four weeks. I committed early on to support the (Senior) Tour. It's important to get new players with name recognition, to get new blood on the tour.'
