At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Former UFC great Ronda Rousey had her first WWE match confirmed on Monday Night Raw this week – and it couldn’t have been in more explosive circumstances.

Rousey is busy making the transition from the combat arena of UFC to the sports-entertainment world of WWE since signing a full-time deal with the company recently.

She’s started in a high-profile way, too, as part of a feud with villainous authority figures Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.

This week’s Raw saw the news confirmed that Rousey will feature in a bout at this year’s Wrestlemania as she partners with Raw GM and Olympic gold medallist Kurt Angle to go up against their bosses. Rousey even put the exclamation point on the announcement by delivering a Samoan Drop to McMahon, much to the delight of the live crowd

These are very early days in very different waters for the 31-year-old American, but she’s already won favour with wrestling fans for her genuine passion for the industry. Her in-ring involvement in terms of physicality has been kept to a minimum thus far as WWE continue to ease her in, but she’s certainly not been afraid to give her all to her performances in these opening few weeks.

Wrestlemania takes place in New Orleans on 8th April.
