The UK’s long wait to host Wrestlemania looks set to continue for the foreseeable future with WWE supremo Triple H lamenting the logistical issues of moving the event across the pond.

The world’s biggest wrestling event is set for its 34th instalment in a couple of weeks’ time as Wrestlemania to from New Orelans, with 80,000 fans expected to turn out.

Thousands of Brits make the pilgrimage Stateside to take in the show and the week-long festivities that come along with it – but have long clamoured to have the event take place here, with Wembley Stadium one of the most obvious choices.

It’s been the wish of many since WWE staged Summerslam at the national stadium in 1992. One of its biggest annual shows, the event packed 80,000 in under the old twin towers for a show headlined by The British Bulldog’s Intercontinental championship win over Bret Hart.

Those UK-only pay-per-views, on a smaller scale, were popular with the company in the late 1990s and early 2000s, but fans have largely been starved of high-profile action when it comes to WWE – the only real exception being the NXT: Takeover London show from the smaller Wembley Arena in 2015.

The topic of Wrestlemania venturing over here is often raised at this time of year, and The Independent pinned Triple H – both still an active competitor set to feature at this year’s show, and a company executive – down on the issue.

While not ruling out the prospect of the historic event, he certainly wasn’t able to add fuel to the fire – though did suggest that a pay-per-view of some other description on UK shores may be possible in the future.

He said: “Any pay-per-view or promotional event of that calibre, they’re all very difficult to put on and challenging.

“When you talk about Wrestlemania and a week-long series of events that is difficult to coordinate in the US, the difficulty level becomes multiplied exponentially when you consider doing it internationally.

“That being said, we are looking into possibilities of a lot of things. I know that fans are hungry for it and that fans are excited about it happening.

“It is something we think about and we are trying to figure out how things would work – whether that’s one of our standard pay-per-views, one of our ‘big four’ or whether that’s Wrestlemania or something totally new.

“We are open to all of it and, as we always say, you never say never in WWE. Without throwing out catchphrases, it fit was best for business then we would certainly be open to doing it.”
