The defending champion took his lead on the last half to ease home in the second fastest time of the season, 0.2sec ahead of the field in 21.50sec. The Dutchman Mark Veens won silver in 21.72 and Spain's Eduard Lorente took bronze with 21.75. The world record-holder Frederick Bousquet, of France, was pushed into fifth.

Kate Haywood, who finished in the middle of the field throughout the earlier rounds, upgraded her performance in the 50m breaststroke final to overtake her rivals on the home run and win bronze in 31.52.
