Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Champions Wigan overcame an eight-point deficit and the sending-off of Joel Tomkins to scrape home 14-12 over Hull. Tomkins was dismissed after 68 minutes for use of the elbow but two tries from Josh Charnley put the Warriors on terms. A penalty from Joel's younger brother, Sam, then edged them ahead, although Danny Tickle missed a kick that would have levelled the scores.

No such drama for Huddersfield who crushed Bradford 50-16, with in-form winger Jermaine McGillvary getting two of their tries.

Castleford went back to the top of the table on Saturday night but did not have things all their own way in a 34-24 win over Catalan Dragons. The visitors led through two early tries and again before half-time but the Tigers got away with it thanks to four tries after the break. Two of them were length-of-the-field efforts from Nick Youngquest and Joe Arundel, but the hard work of their props, Craig Huby and Nick Fozzard, who was making his debut, was also a big factor in Cas preserving their perfect record.

The Dragons' new scrum-half Scott Dureau could not have done much more, scoring 16 points with two tries and four goals.

Castleford supplanted Warrington, who went top with a 22-6 win at Wakefield. That was despite their coach, Tony Smith, opting to rest a number of key players and a gutsy performance from the Wildcats.

Harlequins remain in the top bracket, level on points with the leaders, following a 27-16 win over St Helens. Quins scored three early tries and never looked like letting it slip against the insipid Saints, who have lost their first two fixtures at their temporary home at Widnes.

Leeds put their recent defensive jitters behind them with a commanding 46-12 win over Salford.
