Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Huddersfield have appointed Nathan Brown as their new coach. The Australian, who is in charge at St George-Illawarra, will arrive at the end of the NRL season on a three-year contract. He succeeds Jon Sharp, who was sacked last month after the Giants slumped to next to bottom in Super League.

"Last year they had a really good season, but for whatever reason things haven't gone as well this time," Brown said. "I've watched three or four Giants games and I'm confident that with some hard work and some smart recruitment we can improve things."

Brown has not yet made a decision about who will be on his support staff. "I believe that Paul Anderson and Kieron Purtill have done a tremendous job as caretakers," he said.

Brown, 34, has been regarded as one of Australia's brightest young coaches, but he is being replaced at the club where he has spent 17 years by the vastly experienced former Kangaroos coach Wayne Bennett.

Huddersfield today face a Warrington side who will be without Vinnie Anderson, thanks to a shoulder injury. In Perpignan, the Catalan Dragons will be without the suspended Adam Mogg against Leeds, but Casey McGuire will play after escaping a ban for his part in the same brawl in last week's match against Harlequins. Quins are far more seriously affected for their game at home to Castleford, with five players suspended as a result of offences during that match in France.

There will be over 20,000 fans at the KC Stadium for tomorrow's Hull derby, and James Webster could be among them. The former Hull Kingston Rovers scrum-half has signed for their cross-city rivals, but he cannot play in the black and white of Hull until his British passport arrives and thus exempts him from the import quota. Hull hope the postman will oblige today and have thus left a spot open in their 19-man squad.

Garreth Carvell has been ruled out with a hip injury, but the prop will be fit for Hull's Challenge Cup semi-final against Wakefield next weekend. Wakefield need to shake off that distraction at Bradford tomorrow if they are to maintain their push for a Super League play-off place.

Bradford have named Sam Burgess in their squad of 19, even though the Test forward is waiting for the result of a scan on his shoulder. Terry Newton and Paul Sykes also return for the Bulls.
