Scruton halts Castleford's winning streak

The last perfect record in Super League evaporated at Odsal yesterday when Bradford beat Castleford 18-14. Nick Scruton came off the bench to score two tries for the Bulls, while French forward Olivier Elima got his first for the club.

Castleford, coming to the end of a run of four victories, were hampered by the loss of Danny Orr midway through the match.

On Saturday, St Helens began life without Kyle Eastmond, the rugby union-bound scrum-half they have suspended, with a morale-boosting 30-16 win at Leeds.

Champions Wigan started the weekend by going to the top of the table for the first time this season, thanks to a 20-6 victory at Huddersfield. Wigan's depleted line-up defended magnificently to back up an outstanding contribution from Josh Charnley, who scored one try, laid on two and kicked four goals.

Hull KR, with whom Charnley's talents began to emerge while on loan last season, suffered a shock defeat at Salford. Rovers, with Willie Mason playing the full 80 minutes, overturned an early deficit to lead 18-10, before falling apart to lose 34-18.
