Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

St Helens, second in Super League, have lost two of their first-choice forwards, but not for as long as they feared. Jason Cayless and Chris Flannery both injured knees in the victory over Hull KR last Friday, but neither has damaged a cruciate ligament, as first seemed likely.

Cayless will be out for six to eight weeks with a medial ligament tear and Flannery for an estimated two weeks fewer with a similar injury. With Mike Bennett out for the season, Nick Fozzard not due back until September and Chris Dean on loan to Widnes, Saints will have to dig into their reserves for the game at home to Bradford this Friday. Their coach, Daniel Anderson, is likely to call up Gareth Frodsham and one other part-time player from the reserves.

Clint Newton, of Hull KR, has been suspended for one match for striking with the forearm during the game at Saints.

Queensland have Steven Price back in their front-row as they try to save the State of Origin series against New South Wales in Brisbane.
