Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Huddersfield’s second win of the season over Rovers moved them to within one point of their rivals for the title of surprise team of the Super League season.
Full of energy and enterprise and particularly well served at half-back by Kevin Brown and Luke Robinson, the Giants were always the more convincing side in slippery conditions at the Galpharm Stadium.
There was no hint of a score in a deadlocked first 10 minutes, but when the Giants struck they did so twice in quick succession. Huddersfield chose to run a penalty and
Scott Moore celebrated his England call-up this week by twisting his way over from an unlikely position. For the second try, David Hodgson and Paul Whatuira kept the ball alive on the left touchline for Luke Robinson to find the right angle to cut back against the grain and score.
Ben Galea’s superb flat pass put Kris Welham through for the visitors’ reply. However, Huddersfield went further in front, Lee Mossop, running on to Moore’s pass from dummy half for a try converted, like the previous two, by Leroy Cudjoe.
A couple of storming runs from Huddersfield’s other England selection for Paris, Eorl Crabtree, kept Rovers on the back foot in the second half, but they avoided conceding any more points. Any chance of a revival disappeared 10 minutes from time though when Ben Cockayne was penalised for a head tackle. The Giants again opted to run the ball and Whatuira got over from close range to clinch the points.
