Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Hull, rejected by New Zealand's Stacey Jones, have switched their search for a scrum-half to Chris Thorman, who is thought to be ready to return to England after one year with Parramatta.
"We chased him last year and he almost joined us before taking the option to go to the NRL," said Shaun McRae, the Hull coach. "If he is coming back, he would come into consideration, and I am in touch with his agent." If he does not figure in Parramatta's plans next year, the former Huddersfield and London half-back may return home now, enabling Hull to utilise his talents for the business end of the season.
McRae will miss Hull's games against Leeds tonight and Wigan on Tuesday after flying home to Australia to see his sick father. His trip is unconnected with South Sydney's interest in making him their coach. "I can't stop people being suspicious, but this has nothing to do with that," he said.
Widnes have recruited the former Gateshead and Wigan scrum-half Willie Peters to fill the position which has given them repeated problems this season. Peters, who has been released by South Sydney, is expected to fly in this weekend and make his debut against Wigan the following Saturday.
Warrington have agreed a two-year contract extension with the utility back Daryl Cardiss.
Salford's Karl Harrison has been appointed England's coach for the European Nations Cup at the end of this season, with Denis Betts, of Wigan, as his assistant. The previous England coach, John Kear, is coaching consultant to the tournament.
The Leeds assistant coach, Stuart Wilkinson, has taken charge of Wales following Neil Kelly's resignation, with Wayne O'Kell to help him, while Whitehaven's Steve McCormack coaches Scotland, with the assistance of Dave Rotheram.
