Holroyd to hold fort after Miller's sacking by Doncaster

Doncaster put the former Leeds and Salford stand-off Graham Holroyd in temporary charge yesterday following the sacking of Tony Miller as head coach.

The National League One club parted company with Miller, who had stepped up from the post of assistant coach following the sudden death of St John Ellis on New Year's Eve. Holroyd, 30, who is the side's leading scorer this year, has been made player-coach but the club will advertise for a full-time successor to Miller.

Doncaster, who aim to be part of Super League by 2009 when the franchise system comes in, say they will have a new coach by the time they move into their new 16,000 all-seater stadium later this year.

The new Harlequins coach, Brian McDermott, has made the Warrington back-row forward Paul Noone his first signing.

Noone, 25, who has made 119 Super League appearances for the Wolves, is joining on loan until the end of the season. Quins have lost two forwards, Filimone Lolohea and Karle Temata, as well as the centre Paul Sykes, for the rest of the season with serious injuries.

"Paul Noone is going to come down on Monday to start training with us," said McDermott. "He will bolster the squad." Noone joined Warrington at the age of 14 from Widnes.

The Salford second-row forward Ian Sibbit, 25, will miss the rest of the Super League season after being told he needs a shoulder operation.
