The former dual code international Iestyn Harris has been confirmed as the new coach of Wales. Harris takes over from John Dixon, who has returned to Australia after losing his job at the Celtic Crusaders, where Harris is also expected to become an assistant to Brian Noble.
The 33-year-old has been combining the job as Wales assistant coach with playing and coaching at Featherstone Rovers. He will be aided in his new role by the former Wales national coach Clive Griffiths. Kevin Ellis and John Devereux will retain their roles as assistant coach and team manager.
"I'm excited by the opportunity to help Welsh rugby league develop through the young players who are showing such talent," Harris said. His first match in charge will be against England on 17 October.
Stanley Gene has been found guilty of having his fingers in the eyes or face of an opponent, but has avoided a ban and is available for Hull KR's play-off against Wigan on Saturday.
Rovers have snapped up the Leeds centre Mike Ratu on a two-year contract. Ratu, the third generation of a Fijian league-playing family, spent most of last season on loan to Halifax.
Leeds' choice of opponents for the Super League play-off semi-finals will be televised live on Sunday. Under a new system introduced this season, the Rhinos, as the highest based qualifier, have the right to select which of the two lower-placed sides they will play for a place at the final.
