From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Castleford have completed the signing of Crusaders' Nick Youngquest on a two-year contract. The Australian winger or centre first caught the eye playing for Gateshead last year. He will continue playing for Crusaders in this season's Super League play-offs and is in the squad to travel to Huddersfield tomorrow.

"Nick is a real flyer and will bring a lot of pace to our side," said the Tigers' coach, Terry Matterson. "We see him as one of the best wingers in the league." Youngquest, who played in Australia for Cronulla and St George Illawarra, joins Richie Mathers and Danny Orr as Castleford's early recruits for next season.

Cas have two players, Joe Westerman and the St Helens-bound Michael Shenton, in the first tranche of players selected by England to prepare for this autumn's Four Nations. The England coach, Steve McNamara, has also named four players from his former club, Bradford – Jamie Langley, Andy Lynch, Nick Scruton and Paul Sykes. There are three from Harlequins – Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook, Tony Club and Ben Jones-Bishop – plus Jodie Broughton from Salford.

Sam Burgess, whose South Sydney side have failed to make the NRL play-offs, will remain in Australia and link up with the main England party on its way to New Zealand next month. McNamara will name his final squad on 4 October, the day after many of the candidates play against Cumbria in the Garry Purdham benefit match.

St Helens' Jonny Lomax has recovered from a quad muscle injury and is fit to take his place in the squad to face Warrington in tonight's opening game of the play-off series. Huddersfield's Danny Brough has made himself available for Scotland in this autumn's European Cup, after giving up hope of a call-up by England.

Hull have banned two supporters for life after they intruded on to the KC Stadium pitch during last weekend's match against Leeds. The two were also arrested and charged with public order offences.

Kevin Walters, who coached the Catalan Dragons to this year's Super League wooden spoon, has taken over as coach at Brisbane Easts in the Queensland Cup competition.

Featherstone have become the first side into the Championship Grand Final after beating Halifax 46-16 last night, with Kyle Briggs scoring a hat-trick of tries.
