Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The further One Off goes, the better he gets, and Sir Mark Prescott's game gelding landed his fourth victory on the bounce at Folkestone yesterday. He made all in the 15-furlong handicap, having won from 12 to 14 furlongs in his previous races.

The 11-10 favourite beat It's Your Bid by a length and three-quarters and the son of Barathea still looks one step ahead of the handicapper.

The result had a sting in the tail for the winning jockey, Seb Sanders, however. He was banned for two days (6 and 7 August) for allowing One Off to drift into the inside rails on the bend out of the home straight, causing interference to Humdinger and Friendly Alliance.

Magic Amour, bought originally as a bumper horse, had his first win in the Tote Placepot Stakes over seven furlongs on the Flat, springing a 20-1 shock.

Sprint specialist David Nicholls received a boost for his Goodwood hopes when Ballybunion, ridden by his son Adrian, got up to beat Intellibet One by a neck in the five-furlong Stanford Handicap.
