Maids Causeway, the Coronation Stakes winner, continues to make progress from injuries sustained in the Group One race at Royal Ascot at York last week.

But connections will not know for several days whether she can continue her racing career. The three-year-old filly short-headed Karen's Caper in a thrilling finish to the mile showpiece, but pulled up lame due to a problem with her near-hind shoe.

Trainer Barry Hills later reported that the daughter of Giant's Causeway had also pulled a muscle in her hip, although her foot injury is healing well at present. Hills' son and assistant, Charlie, explained: "The clip on her shoe came loose and cut into her. The foot is healing and is in a poultice. There is a lot of puss coming out, but all being well the infection will clear up by the weekend.

"After that we will be able to more accurately assess her condition. With any luck at all she will be able to go for races like the Champion Stakes and the Breeders' Cup."

o Lester Piggott will be at Salisbury today to officially open the course's new £1.1mWiltshire Stand.
