Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Day Flight will not be added to the Derby field at Monday's £75,000 supplementary stage. The John Gosden-trained colt, an impressive 20-length winner of the Michael Seely Memorial Glasgow Stakes at York this month, had been quoted at 10-1 with a run by William Hill.

Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to the colt's owner, Khalid Abdullah, has confirmed Day Flight - who holds an entry in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot - will not run in the Epsom feature next Saturday. The owner still has American Post as a possible runner in the premier Classic.

Salford City has been supported with both William Hill and Coral ahead of the big race. David Elsworth's charge pleased connections in a workout on the track this week and is now 10-1 from 12-1 with both firms. "Since working on the track on Wednesday, and following positive comments from connections, this colt has been all the rage with punters and could be a single-figure price by next weekend," David Stevens, of Coral, said.
